For the Better of Mankind Productions
About us
For the Better of Mankind Productions is a multimedia production company from North of Boston, Massachusetts specializing to date in extreme underground horror. It is our mission to bring the viewer the very best in micro-budget cinema through a relentless drive to be successful on our own terms. To us this means producing films that are capable of making people feel and think but more importantly to make films that we want to make. We do it because we love horror films and we feel the genre needs new blood to offer something besides the latest remake. We are more concerned with delivering the film that you want to see than selling it and watching it become watered down.
For the Better of Mankind Productions was formed on a whim in December of 2004 after Ron DeCaro decided he would shoot a zero budget horror short during his daughters nap called Eating Razors. The 3 minute short was poorly produced and shot on a one CCD camcorder but it was enough to set the hook in DeCaro’s mouth. Shortly after DeCaro produced another short called the Pustule. In 2005 DeCaro began another short called Eating Razors (a love story) and produced the first DVD from FTBOMP. During Rock & Shock 2005 DeCaro and long time friend Drew Snelson went to hand distribute copies of the DVD and we made friends with The LaBonte twins. Aaron and Ben LaBonte are Tom Savini school graduates and were instantly involved with FTBOMP. The brothers frequently would spend weekends with the DeCaro’s working on effects for what would later become the Gateway Meat. From these sessions DeCaro learned how to build make up effects. In the spring of 2006 As work progressed on TGM DeCaro decided he would shoot a very mean ten minute short called the White Lie. A small DVD release of the White Lie was hand pressed and quickly sold out. The reviews were good. People who watch the film are truly affected by it. The White Lie focused on a much tighter production and delivered what it promised…a rough ride. That brings us to The Gateway Meat that was originally envisioned as a 30 minute short that would be the close of the Brightside Trilogy. As shooting progressed the film seemed to take on a life of its own and was extended to 70 minutes.

| BIO "Ever since my dad started to torture my tender young mind with horror films (saw jaws at the drive-in at seven- puked my steak dinner onto the dirt, saw Invasion Of The Body Snatchers in the theatre, had plants in my room.............), I've always had a great love for horror. As a teen, seeing the great leaps in special EFX that the horror genre was achieving, especially the amazing work in John Carpenter's "The Thing", I became fascinated with the process, and always wanted to experience being on the set of an actual horror film. Upon moving back to Cape Ann, Mass in the winter of 2005, I found out my long-time friend Ron DeCaro was working on his first film, "Eating Razors", and instantly became involved in any way I could. And the rest, as the saying goes, is history!" Drew is currently residing in Rockport, Massachusetts, with his fiance Gen (who is pregnant with Andrew David Snelson!), and probably putting good use to a 30-pack of Bud.

| BIO Since we are twins we've shared many of the same interests over the years. From the heaviest metal music to all types of film. This team element has allowed us the abiltiy to work faster and more efficiently on whatever projects we've worked on. Our nightmares also brought more to our imagination. With knowing what scares us would scare others. We've drawn for awhile for a few years but came into the opportunity to apprentice under a tattoo artist.Seven months into our apprenticeship, Fangoria Magazine had an ad for The Tom Savini Make-up Special Effects Program in 2000. Aaron immediately became part of the first class with Ben following a few months later to become part of the second class. We worked on various independent films including Fred Vogel's August Underground, The Redsin Tower & The Gateway Meat while doing tatoos in betweenprojects. Currently we are now creative members of G.A.S.P. Magazine. |
